代々木の家

The site is located in Yoyogi, Shibuya City and is a 55 m2 space on the second floor of a 35-year-old apartment block next to Yoyogi Park and Meiji Shrine.

The former 2LDK layout has been completely opened to a 55 m2 studio, allowing plenty of space for two adults, three children and a dog.

Here, only the kitchen sits in the center of the space and the rest is left to each individual to use in their own way.

The only thing in the house that does not move is the kitchen area which also serves as storage.

What was important here was to be aware of the “blank space” where miscellaneous items can grow.

The appearance of the space often changes over periods of time while the unchanging “skeleton of the space” is usually hidden from view.

Here, the structure of the home, made from concrete, is almost organic in nature. Although concrete is a man-made material, in this situation, it has a multifaceted appearance that gives freedom to the space.

The concrete does not show its strength on its own, but when combined with interior furnishings, they stimulate each other.

Life is interspersed in the balance and equilibrium, between the structure and the interior. A living figure is captured in the density of objects and the rhythm of life. Designing the foundations of such a life was important to us.
