O夫妻の家

A house designed for a family of four: a couple in their thirties and two children aged three and one. Located in the north of Yamanashi City, Yamanashi Prefecture, the site is surrounded by vineyards with a view of the Kofu Basin and Mount Fuji at the front of the house.

The building was built on the corner of a piece of 920 m2 land (470 m2 site area and 450 m2 field area) and is a two-story wooden structure with a building area of 92 m2 and a total floor area of 123 m2.

The layout is based on a 2,730-mm grid, and the entire structure is made of a post and beam construction, consisting of wooden shafts of columns and beams. This layout plays a role in the design proportions of the building while at the same time allowing the walls and fittings to be updated as the family life cycle changes. This grid influences the arrangement of rooms and the placement of objects.

In Japanese wooden architecture this grid concept is common, making it a suitable configuration for modern life. By adopting this approach, we also feel that we have been able to keep the shape and exterior design of the building simple and respect the flow of life that operates in the space without forgetting about the family who lives there.

The construction is completed and passes into the hands of the family, and family life begins. The architecture can be developed around this flexible configuration as a vessel that can accommodate changes in life as the family grows.
