福岡県福岡市の高台に建つ築30年の戸建住宅の改修プロジェクト。
市街地からほど近い距離に位置しながら、博多の街を一望できる眺望が特徴的な住宅である。既存の建物は、リビング、ダイニング、キッチン、パントリーや勝手口玄関スペースなど、それぞれ細かく部屋として仕切られている構成であったが、新しい住まい手である夫婦２人の生活を考慮し、広々した開放的な空間へ更新することを考えた。
既存の間仕切壁を撤去し、部屋の中央に設けたパントリーを中心にロの字型にひとつながりの空間とした。そのひとつながりの空間を、再利用した既存の格子建具によって仕切ることができる。眺望の良い北側に対しては開口部を広げて街の景色を取り込み、反対に東の庭側は小さく調整した。これらの開口部の調整によって、隣地からのプライバシー確保と同時に風景を切り取り、視線をコントロールしている。
既存建物が持っている良さをできる限り残しながら、新旧の要素をパッチワークのように丁寧に重ね合わせることで現代の生活に寄り添うような住まいを目指した。

A renovation project of a 30-year-old detached house on high ground in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan
The house is located a short distance from the city center but features views over the city of Hakata. The existing building consisted of a living room, dining room, kitchen, pantry and kitchen entrance space, divided into smaller rooms. The idea was to update the layout to be spacious and open for the new occupants, a couple. We removed the existing partition walls to create a single space in the shape of the letter “L” with a pantry in the center of the room. The connected spaces can be partitioned by existing lattice fittings that have been re-used. We widened the openings on the north side that have a view of the city landscape, while on the opposite east garden side, we adjusted them to be smaller. By adjusting these openings, privacy from the neighboring land is ensured, and, at the same time, the landscape is cut off and the line of sight controlled.
The aim was to retain as much of the good qualities of the existing building as possible while carefully layering old and new elements like a patchwork to create a home that is in tune with modern life.
